For nearly 25 years, the innovative leadership of Greenwood has advanced Greenwood County’s economy. Greenwood’s economic strength originated from the area’s once thriving textile industry. Since then, a world of change has occurred. Today, Greenwood is an economy with achievements in specialized manufacturing, life science discoveries and advancements, unsurpassed healthcare services and treatment, and rapid growth of the retirement population.
Over the years, Greenwood’s citizens have taken a proactive approach in actualizing these economic achievements. Community leaders realized early on that the county needed economic and development professionals to direct local economic initiatives. That led to the creation of the Greenwood County Economic Alliance in 1986. One of the first of its kind in the United States and in South Carolina, the Greenwood County Economic Alliance partnered with both private businesses and public entities. By intent and design, this partnership looked out for Greenwood’s future, its economic growth and development, and its quality of life.
