Greenwood Genetic Center: The Greenwood Genetic Center (GGC), founded in 1974, is a nonprofit organization advancing the field of medical genetics and caring for families impacted by genetic disease and birth defects. At its home campus in Greenwood, South Carolina, a talented team of physicians and scientists provides clinical genetic services, diagnostic laboratory testing, educational programs and resources, and research in the field of medical genetics. GGC’s faculty and staff are committed to the goal of developing preventive and curative therapies for the individuals and families they serve.
In June 2013, Clemson University announced plans to add a 17,000-square-foot research and education center in human genetics on nearly 15 acres donated by Greenwood County and the Greenwood Commissioners of Public Works. The site is located adjacent to the Greenwood Genetic Center within the Greenwood Research Park.
Greenwood Research Park: 190-acre research park, equipped with some of the best data infrastructure in the state and home to over 110 medical professionals. Current collaborative partners include the Greenwood Genetic Center and the Clemson University Center for Human Genetics.
Greenwood Genetic Center, will be a core campus for recruiting research and development companies engaged in human diagnostics, cognitive development, central nervous system, autism, birth defects, cancer, and inflammatory diseases. The collaborative will seek new discoveries in genetic diagnostics and epigenetic therapeutics.
In addition, Clemson University and Greenwood Genetic Center will offer a jointly taught Ph.D. in Genetics. In this program, top students share opportunities between GGC and Clemson, and selected faculty of both institutions enjoy joint appointments. This team collaborates with researchers throughout the world to intensify and accelerate our search for answers so that families can intervene earlier, giving their children more hope for joyful and productive lives.
